Head Start is a full-day preschool program for three, four, and five-year-olds from low-income families. It promotes the cognitive, physical, emotional, psychological, and social development of children, including those with disabilities. It assists their families through educational, social, nutritional, health, disabilities, family partnership, transportation, and transition services components. Staff members work closely with families and community agencies to meet the comprehensive needs of all children.

Application Requirements

The following documents are needed to complete an application:

1. Child’s Birth Certificate (must be 3 years old on or before September 1, 2025)

2. Medicaid or Any Medical Insurance Card (If applicable)

3. Social Security Cards (Parent & Child)

4. Certificate of Immunization (DHEC Form 1148 only; No pink cards accepted)

5.  Parent Photo Identification (If Applicable)

6.  Income Verification-Proof of total family income (For example, 2024 W2, 2024 Tax Return (IRS 1040), Letter from employer indicating salary for the previous 12 months, unemployment,  Social Security/SSI Benefit Letter, or Proof of TANF)

7.  SNAP Verification Or Copy of Current EBT Card, if applicable

8. Documentation of the Child’s Disability or Special Need, if the condition has been diagnosed by a public agency and requires special education and related services with an Individualized Education Program (IEP)
